IROVT Memorial

On April 16, 2007, our school endured a tragedy of unbearable proportions. The International Relations Organization at Virginia Tech lost three dedicated and valuable members of our organization. Below are biographies of those fallen.

Austin Cloyd joined IROVT after the Georgetown Model United Nations Conference in Washington D.C. Throughout the year, Austin attended three Model UN conferences, helped with numerous events about Darfur, Sudan, attended the STAND conference on Darfur in Atlanta, and eventually attained the officer position of CISO representative.

Austin's aptitude for Model UN and other IROVT workings was extremely impressive. After only six months, she learned parliamentary procedure well enough to co-chair a committee for our Middle School Model UN simulation and our full conference, VTMUNC. She also played an integral part in building displays, and running our simulations and conferences. Without her help, IROVT would not have had such a successful 2006-2007 school year.

Austin was one of our most active members. She was running uncontested for the position of VP Finance for the 2007-2008 school year, and was interested in continuing our Virginia Tech Darfur Divestment campaign. Her wit, academic potential, vision, and supportive nature will be greatly missed.

Austin was involved with the Appalachian Service Project for several years. IROVT is sending a group of students to work with the organization in November. Please email IROVT@vt.edu for details.

Daniel Perez joined IROVT after the Georgetown Model United Nations Conference in Washington D.C. Daniel also participated in numerous events hosted by IROVT, including World Watch 2006. He also traveled to Atlanta with IROVT to attend the STAND Conference on Darfur, Sudan.

Daniel was a vice-chair for our Model UN Conference, VTMUNC, in March. Through the conference and throughout the year, Daniel demonstrated his patience and sensitivity in both his work and his personality.  He was set to be one of the Assistants of International Relations for the 2007-2008 school year. Daniel will be truly missed.

Nicole White joined IROVT in November 2006 in an effort to help with our Model UN conference, VTMUNC. For our conference, Nicole helped edit papers, drive delegates, create crises, and with logistical workings. Because of her hard work, Nicole was to be one of our Assistants of International Relations for the 2007-2008 school year. We have no doubt she would have delivered excellently for the post.
